Updated for the new regulation
What's changing under the new Immigration Regulation
Royal Decree 1155/2024 has been in force since 20 May 2025 and significantly reformed residency-through-ties ("arraigo") routes and family reunification. Here's what's changed:

Not sure what a term means? Check our immigration glossary- Social ties ("arraigo social")
- The required period of continuous residence drops from 3 to 2 years, and a work contract is no longer required: a family tie to a legal resident or a favourable social integration report is enough.
- Employment ties ("arraigo sociolaboral", formerly "arraigo laboral")
- Now requires an employment contract in force at the time of application, rather than proof of a past employment relationship that has already ended.
- Training ties ("arraigo socioformativo", formerly "arraigo para la formación")
- Proven through enrolment in vocational training (FP), upper-secondary school, or adult education.
- Family reunification
- The minimum income required is 150% of the IPREM for the first family member (around €900/month in 2025), plus 50% more per additional member, with reductions if you receive the Minimum Vital Income (IMV).
Every case is different, and the exceptions matter as much as the general rule — tell us your situation and we'll tell you which route fits.

Common questions about arraigo and family reunification
How many years do I need to have lived in Spain for arraigo social?
Since the 2025 reform, two years of continuous residence, down from the previous three. Time spent outside Spain can't add up to more than 90 days in total.
Do I need a work contract for arraigo social?
No. Arraigo social no longer requires a work contract: a family tie to a legal resident in Spain or a favourable social integration report is enough.
What's the difference between arraigo social and arraigo sociolaboral?
Arraigo social doesn't require a work contract. Arraigo sociolaboral (formerly arraigo laboral) does, but it now has to be in force when you submit your application, not a past employment relationship that has already ended.
How much income do I need to bring my family over?
As a 2025 reference, 150% of the monthly IPREM for the first family member (around €900) plus 50% more per additional member. If you receive the Minimum Vital Income, the required percentage is lower.
I was already denied arraigo or a renewal — can I do anything?
Yes. We review the reason for the denial and assess whether an administrative appeal, a new application, or another route makes sense for your case.
